Roger Tredgido Retires

Longtime Labourer Roger Tregidgo had his retirement party on December 1 at the Pemberton Station Pub. Business Agent Butch Sidey presented Roger with a token of the local's appreciation for his years of service.

Sir John Franklin Lauched

On December 8, 2017 dignitaries from the federal and provincial governments, the Squamish Nation, Canadian Coast Guard, and Seaspan joined Local 506 members in launching the Sir John Franklin an ocean science vessel. This is the first ship launched under the National Shipbuilding Program.

Our 70 Years of History About to Come Alive

Business Agent Butch Sidey and Communications Chair David Maidman are pleased to announce that Dr. Chris Madsen has been contracted to write a book about Local 506’s history.  This project was initiated at our June membership meeting and the book will celebrate our 70th year in 2018.

President Joseph Keegan Hands Over His Gavel

It was an eventful couple of days in the history of Local 506.   Brother Joseph Keegan presided over his final meeting as local president at our regular monthly meeting on Thursday, October 20.  At the same time an election was held to chose his successor.  It was a tightly contested election between Toby Charette, John McKay, Dave Miller, and Shawn Sly.  John McKayl was declared the winner after the ballots were counted and will fill out the remainder of Brother Keegan's term as president.

Summer Picnic

Save the date weekend of August 19-20
A committee is working on organizing a picnic for the membership of Local 506.  They are looking at the third weekend in August as a good time to hold it.  So don't make any plans for that weekend and come out and have some fun.

New Members at June Meeting

Thanks to all the members who attended our June membership meeting.  The meeting was held on Saturday, June 17 in order to giver our brothers and sisters on afternoon and graveyard shift a chance to attend without having to miss work.  President Joseph Keegan once again had the honour of swearing in our latest batch of new members.  The union will now take a break for the summer.  Our next regular meeting will be Thursday, September 21.

CMAW Labour History Presentation

Many of our members think that our present day wages, benefits and working conditions came to us because of the generosity and compassion of the company, rather it was due to the men and women who realizing that only by coming together and acting in solidarity could the bosses be challenged and made to share the wealth that they created.  In this way the union movement was born.
CMAW has created a short slide show that tells the story of the some of the momentous events in Canadain labour history.
