Job Title: Painter/Blaster

Job Description:
Painter/Blasters play a crucial role in surface preparation and painting of ships under construction. They are responsible for utilizing various methods, including mechanical tools and blasting techniques, to prepare surfaces and apply marine coatings according to contract specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply coatings using conventional spray systems, airless spray systems, and plural spray systems
  • Safely operate equipment such as blast pots, spray guns, and sandblasting tools
  • Maintain consistent thickness in spray applications and apply paint with brush and roll
  • Apply epoxy, polyurethane, and high solids coatings
  • Demonstrate knowledge of wet and dry blast methods and processes
  • Mix paints according to manufacturer instructions
  • Operate and maintain spray equipment, troubleshoot equipment issues
  • Apply masking materials to protect designated areas from paint and overspray
  • Understand and interpret material safety data sheets, drawings, and blueprints
  • Ensure compliance with environmental requirements and industry standards for paint application and disposal
  • Perform other related duties as required

Education & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent vocational education
  • Minimum 2 years of coatings related experience in shipbuilding and/or industrial industries
  • Knowledge/experience with industrial high-performance coatings is advantageous
  • Familiarity with modern shipbuilding processes and terminology is beneficial
  • Ability to read engineering/masking drawings and specifications is advantageous
  • Knowledge of (SSPC/NACE) coating standards preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a positive attitude

Additional Information:

  • Health, Welfare & Pension Package: Excellent benefits package after completion of 480 hours
  • Starting Wage for sprayers and blasters: $52.33/hr
  • Shift Differential if applicable: $3.25 per hour for afternoon shift, $4.65 per hour for graveyard
  • Overtime: Double time
